Launches suit against tobacco retailers

street. JOHN'S the government of Newfoundland and Labrador has filed a lawsuit against tobacco manufacturers to recover the costs of treating smokingrelated illnesses, 10 years after it introduced legislation letting it to sue tobacco companies.

"By proclaiming this piece of legislation we want to expose tobacco companies for misrepresenting the harm in connection with their products, Justice Minister Felix Collins said in a news stop.

"We now have entrenched in our provincial statutes the mechanisms by which we can attempt to recover the healthrelated costs associated with tobacco use, Collins mentioned.

The province says its 51page statement of claim names more than a dozen types including industry giants Rothmans Inc. And Philip Morris us of a Inc.

The province has been monitoring other jurisdictions with just one legislation and now feels it has everything necessary to build a strong case, shown Collins.

The court action seeks recovery of costs associated with healthcare services provided to individuals who have suffered from tobaccorelated diseases, or even future black friday deals healthrelated costs to the province.

"Tobacco use costs the province a couple of hundred million dollars annually in both direct health care costs and indirect costs including productivity lost due to illness and premature death, Health Minister Jerome Kennedy said in the discharge.

He said tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable disease and death and ugg boots for sale is black friday sales online due to lung cancer, heart problems and respiratory disease.

government entities has hired a law firm in St. John's to handle the case. The Newfoundland team will get legal advice from a law firm that are experts in tobacco litigation based in Independence, Mo.

You most likely be kidding. putting in tax payers money on a frivilous lawsuits.

show a discrepancy if government wasn't happily taking the tax money,

what has next. Liquor corporations. heya, Doesn't government own the liquor firms. Hey sue your company for a joke. Guess you have access to SUE happy,

fed can sue McDonals, Kentucky, Mary cleveland browns, Frito put in, coke, softdrink, All the chocolate makers as so the list goes on and on.

moreover I am NOT a smoker. i think it stinks, Is a waste of money and looks ridiculous puffing on a piece of paper.

a complete waste of tax dollars. The smart lawyers are also doing a class action on moose accidental injuries, Another waste of cash. It is really rich to hear that they will sue tobacco companies, Why not put the taxes from cigarettes into a health fund for those experiencing smoking, And add those afflicted michael kors black friday sale 2013 by the carbon monoxide smoke of those smoking etc.

if the suit is filed, If the government is really serious about the health risk of smoking, plus the fact the costs to healthcare; Then ban it overall.

keep in mind that finished this one why not sue the fast food outlets for making sedentary people obese. The cost of obesity and all its affiliated diseases is insurmountable yet the government spectates while young children knock back all the junk food washed down with pop, dieting and nondiet.
