In haute couture, silk is preferred choice of medium. Haute couture dresses are hand sewn rather than through machine. From the start to the finished product, it is sewn, detailed completely by hand.

Silk having its low conductivity makes up for both, a summer and winter wear as it helps maintain the body heat. It being highly absorbent makes it the fabric of choice; silk dresses have the lustrous effect that gives the dress a nice color under the light.
